What are they?

WorkHealth checks are free, convenient and confidential health assessments offered in the workplace.

By participating in these checks, workers will learn more about their risk of heart disease and type 2 diabetes. The checks look at factors that impact personal health such as diet, exercise, smoking and alcohol consumption.

Each check takes about 15 minutes, with feedback and advice provided immediately based on results.

Workers found to be at risk during the WorkHealth check can access free support to address health issues through WorkHealth coach

What happens during WorkHealth checks?

A trained health professional will visit the workplace to conduct the checks.

Participating workers will:

Workers found to be at risk of type 2 diabetes or heart disease can participate in our free, confidential WorkHealth coach program to help reduce their risk.

Participation is voluntary and each worker’s results will always remain strictly confidential.

What employers will learn

If over 50 workers have a WorkHealth check, employers will receive a summary report. The report will not identify anyone, instead present results such as '30% of your workforce are smokers'.

This information can then be used by the employer as a guide to implement healthy workplace practices and policies.

Organisations with less than 50 workers are eligible to participate in WorkHealth checks, but they will not receive a summary report.

Apply for WorkHealth checks now

If you have already offered health checks to the majority of workers in your workplace, you may like to consider a workplace program or workplace health promotion grant.

The checks are absolutely free

From the 1st November 2011, WorkHealth checks are absolutely free for all Victorian businesses large or small.

This means no upfront payments and no need to seek reimbursement from WorkSafe.

Public health checks are also an option

Organisations with only a few employees may find it convenient to participate in a public WorkHealth event, rather than have a service provider visit their workplace.

WorkHealth holds a number of public health checks every month. These checks provide workers with the same level of privacy and information as the WorkHealth checks conducted in the workplace.

Further information can be found in Public WorkHealth Checks.
